The temple foundations were layed around 1295 together with foundation of the city of Pilsen. The church was designed as a tree-nave hall in the late Gothic style. The main altar is decorated by the marlstone statue of the Pilsen Madonna from about 1390 which i sone of the highlights of the Bohemian Gothic style, referred to as „the beautiful style“. The only tower of the church (102,26 m) is the highest church tower in the Czech Republic. After more than 70 years, four missing bells financed from the public collection organized by the Pilsen citizens at the occasion of European capital of culture 2015, returned to the church bell tower. Besides the existing bell Prokop, the bells Barholomew, Hroznata, Mary and John were added. With the coming into existence of the Pilsen diocese in 1993, the parish church turned into a cathedral, i.e. the seat of the bishop. Do not forget to visit the Pilsen angel for good luck outside at the back altar of the cathedral!
